13 Builder Fabric
This is the cotton cloth on which the motor tyre maker places the greatest reliance for the wearing qualities of the finished tyre. There are two main varieties, the square woven or " builder fabric," in which the warp and weft threads are practically equal, and the " cord " fabric, which is also square woven, but wherein the warp only is relied on for the strength or any other stress-resisting qualities that may be required. The builder fabric is tightly woven, giving it a stiff, hard feel, and is a superfine " duck." The standard fabric is 171/4 oz. per square yard, composed for 22's or 23's warp and weft yarns, 11-fold single ply, the twist in the single 14 to 15 turns, and in the ply yarn 4 to 5 turns per inch; 23 X 23-ends and picks per inch. These are the " fabric tyres of commerce " (see Cord Tyre Fabric and Breaker) -
14 Quilts, Toilet
QUILTS, TOILETA non-reversible fabric of the pique type in which a fine face cloth is woven by healds, and is figured by a tightly woven warp actuated by a jacquard. The usual arrangement is one binding warp to two face ends. The fabrics may be (1) " loose backs " in which the binding warp threads float on the back of the cloth when not forming figure; (2) half-fast; and (3) fast backs. In half-fast and fast backs the binding warp interweaves more or less firmly with an additional weft. In the better qualities, a third weft may be introduced as wadding. Toilets are usually woven grey and bleached in the piece. -

16 jicarilla
(Sp. model spelled same [xikaríja], diminutive of jícara [see above])1) Carlisle: 1867. A small cup used for drinking hot chocolate, or a small, tightly woven basket. Cobos concurs with both of these definitions. See jicara above.2) OED: 1850. An Apache tribe found primarily in New Mexico. Hendrickson suggests that the tribe takes its name from a hill in southeast Colorado or northern New Mexico shaped like an upside-down chocolate cup, a place where they once lived. He also notes that the tribe may have been named for the baskets woven by its members. Also known as Jicarilla Apaches. -
